Bill was born on January 25, 1918, to William Sr. and Elizabeth Acker (nee Gross) in Steelton, PA. Bill married the love of his life, Joanne (nee Nye) on July 6, 1946, in Annville, Pa. Bill graduated from Cornwall High School in June 1936 and attended Lebanon Valley College, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in January 1940 and proudly served until his retirement from the U.S. Air Force in September 1962. Bill worked in commercial aviation for the remainder of his career. Bill was a member of the Mount Lebanon Masonic Lodge for 63 years. Bill is survived by Beverly and Peter McIllwain (daughter and son-in-law) of Granite Falls, NC; Pamela Cunningham (daughter) of Houston,TX; Megan and Jonathan Elliott (granddaughter and husband) of Arlington, VA; Shana and Andrew Leeper (granddaughter and husband), and Natalie and Mackenzie Jo Leeper (greatgranddaughters) of Colorado Springs, CO. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved Joanne, who died in January 2007. A service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Sell Chapel at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA. Bill will be inurned with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, on August 10, 2009, along with his wife, Joanne.
