Allwein, 80, passed away Monday, November 30, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. He was the husband of Arlene M. Smith Allwein for the past 55 years. Born in Lebanon, on August 16, 1929, William was the son of the late Russell C. and Florence Sullivan Allwein. He was a retired Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, Annville and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Lebanon, a graduate of Lebanon Catholic High School, the Knights of Columbus, and the Notre Dame Club. He enjoyed horse racing and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Arlene, he is survived by four children, Debra, wife of David Berger, of San Jose, Calif., David, husband of Mary Ann Allwein, of Lebanon, Ann, wife of Mark DiGiovanni, of Lumberton, N.J., and Beth, wife of Jim Fuhrman, of Royersford; six grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, Samantha, Lauren, Mark and Drew; two brothers, John Allwein, of Ambler, and Robert Allwein of Fayettsville; a sister, Nancy Collarile, of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Herbert Allwein; and two sisters, Marian Shuey and Joan Emerson. Funeral Mass on Friday at 8:30 a.m. from St. Mary's Church, 2 N. 8th St., Lebanon, PA 17046. Visitation Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. 126 S. 9th St., Lebanon. Interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday.
