Beam, Jr., 51, of Hunters Valley Road, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2009, at his residence. Jay was born April 13, 1958, in Berks County, the son of Ruth I. (Drumheller) Beam of Liverpool and the late Jay L. Beam, Sr. He was a 1976 graduate of Northern Lebanon High School. Jay graduated second in his class. He was in Who's Who of H.S. students in 1976. Jay worked for four years as a tool and die maker before he started dairy farming in 1980. Jay will always be remembered for his fondness for gardening and attending sales and auctions, always looking for a good bargain. Although his vocation was farming, he was self-educated and knowledgeable in many unrelated subjects. Jay could engage almost anyone in a lengthy and lively conversation about something of interest to them. He especially enjoyed helping others, often putting their needs ahead of his own. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters and one brother-inlaw, Jennifer Maupin of Tennessee, and Elmira and Gary Welsh of York; one brother and sister-in-law, Jesse and Heather Beam of New Freedom; four nieces; and three nephews. He was a loyal and dedicated son, brother, and friend. Although he did not have any children, he treated his local nephews, Kyle and Zachary Beam, as his own. Friends and family are invited to the Blessed Hope Bible Church, 9 Witmer Road, Liverpool, on Saturday with a visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. The service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. Family friend, Pastor George Jensen, will be officiating. Interment will follow the service in Hunter's Valley Cemetery, Liverpool, with a light luncheon afterward. We welcome everyone to stay and share stories about Jay and celebrate his life. Please dress comfortably, as Jay was never one to be pretentious. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army or your local food bank. Arrangements are by the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland.
