Beard, 67, of 1 Madeleine Drive, died Sunday October 4, 2009, in his residence. He was the husband of Sandra J. Garrett Beard, to whom he was married 26 years. Born in Lebanon, on July 21, 1942, he was the son of the late Robert and Bernadine Long Beard. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Game Commission for over 27 years, serving as Assistant Director, Bureau of Law Enforcement (now Wildlife Protection). He supervised the Commissions Special Operations Unit, was a certified firearms instructor, and was an active member of the Northeast Conservation Law Enforcement Chief's Association (NECLECA). He also served as Wildlife Identification Instructor as well as provided Law Enforcement training and techniques at the Commission's Ross Leffler School of Conservation. Mr. Beard did Game Law and Code training plus policy updates for sitting District Magistrates at the state's District Justices' training facilities and served on the interview board to help screen applicants for the Game Commission's Training School, as well as assisting the State's Civil Service Commission with their interview process. He also served as a Wildlife Conservation Officer. Jim served with the U.S. Army, graduated in 1960 from Lebanon High School, and from the Ross Leffler School of Conservation, Rockway. He held memberships with the Palmyra Rod & Gun Club, the R Field and Stream of Lebanon County, the Goodwill Fire Co. #1, Myerstown, the New Cumberland Boating and Fishing Club, and the American Legion Post #28, Oak Orchard Riverdale, Millsboro, Del. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Robert H. Bartolo of Akron, Ohio, and David M. Batchelder, II of Tempe, Ariz.; a daughter, Gisele A. Klimovsky of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Shane T., Jordan R., and Alyse A. Klimovsky, and Deva S. Leach; a sister, Barbara, wife of Donald Lesher of Myerstown; a niece, Donna Lesher; and a nephew, Michael Lesher. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. from the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 E. Main St., Annville. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the AseraCare Hospice, 315 Primrose Lane, Suite 101, Mountville, PA 17554; or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1274, Lebanon, PA 17042.
