Bender, 84, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at Hershey Medical Center. He was the husband of Dorothy A. (Reiber) Bender. They were married for 59 years in July. Born in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Jacob F. and Bertha M. (Zimmerman) Bender. Mr. Bender was a member of Conewago Church of the Brethren, where he had been a trustee. He retired in 1983 from the New Cumberland Army Depot, where he was employed as an aircraft repairman. He previously worked in the same capacity at Olmsted Air Force Base in Middletown and earlier had been employed at the Hershey Chocolate Factory. After retirement, Mr. Bender was employed by the R.E. Wright Company. He also enjoyed building his own aircraft. Kermit served during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he is survived by six children, Karl, husband of Deborah Bender of Elizabethtown, Linda, wife of Michael Bell of Mt. Gretna, Kathy, wife of Crede Douglass of Palmyra, Nancy, wife of Michael O'Donnell of Scottsdale, Ariz., Cheryl, wife of James Booth of Linglestown, and Pamela, wife of Thomas Hertzog of Marietta; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 12 noon Saturday at Conewago Church of the Brethren, 7035 Schoolhouse Road, Hershey, PA 17033. There will be no viewing. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Conewago Church of the Brethren. Arrangements are by Miller/Sekely Funeral Services, Elizabethtown.
