Campbell, Jr., 78, of Harrisburg died Friday May 22, 2009 of long-term heart disease in his residence. He served as high school principal at AnnvilleCleona High School from 1975-1990. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War doing tours of duty in Seoul and Okinawa serving with the 101st Airborne, 29th Infantry division. Jim was a graduate of Duke University, Lock Haven State, received his M. Ed in Administration from Ohio State University, and did doctoral work at Rutgers University. He began his educational career as a math teacher in 1953 at Aurora High School, Ohio, and quickly rose through the ranks of teacher, principal, and superintendent in schools in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. His final tenure was at Annville-Cleona High School. His primary philosophy of education was that education happens when students are kept busy and are held to high standards. Jim was a former Susquehanna Township Commissioner, served on the tipstaff in the Dauphin County courtroom for Judge Richard Clark, was a member of Senator Jeffrey Piccolo's Veteran's Advisory Committee, a member of American Legion Post 0945, and enjoyed carpentry and woodcarving. One of his greatest joys was finding Campbell origins during his travels to Scotland. Surviving is his wife, Kay Kauffman Campbell, still teaching at Annville-Cleona; a daughter Abby, wife of Tim Rush of Roswell, Georgia; grandchildren Meredith and Justin Rush; his sister Mrs. Doris Sell, a niece and a nephew. His dear friends, brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Wenda Kauffman, also survive and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents Emerson and Clara Campbell who were second generation Scot immigrants. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM from the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 E. Main Street, Annville. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 910 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
