Born August 30, 1926, in Buffalo, N.Y., she was the daughter of Owen and Doris Filsinger Jeacock. She was a graduate of Bennett High School in Buffalo, N.Y. and Keuka College in Keuka, N.Y. She was a past president of the Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary and held several other positions in that organization. Mrs. Cassel was one of the founders of the Auxiliary's Festival of Lights program, which raises funds for various projects of the Chambersburg Hospital. As a Chambersburg Hospital Volunteer, she accumulated over 8,000 volunteer hours. While living in Buffalo, she worked as a secretary for a law firm and for the University of Buffalo's School of Business. She served on Shippensburg University's Summer Festival Orchestra Board and the Faculty Wives organization. She had a passion for various types of needlework and was an accomplished seamstress. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Herbert S. Cassel; a daughter, Linda C. Gutowski and her husband, Robert, of Cincinnati, Ohio; a son, William O. Franz of Wilmington, Delaware; a stepdaughter, Ivy M. (Cassel) Allen of Roseville, California; a brother, Donald Jeacock of Friendsville, Tennessee; a sister, Suzanne DiPirro of Tonawanda, New York, and grandchildren, Alison, John and Dorothy Franz and James Allen. Aside from her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Franz and a brother, Harvey Jeacock. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 PM Monday, July 27, 2009, in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, in the Rothermel Funeral Home, Inc., South Railroad and West Pine Streets, Palmyra, PA 17078, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra, PA. The family requests the omission of flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary, 120 North Seventh Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201, or to Keuka College 141 Central Ave., Keuka Park, New York 14478, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
