M. shabodeho@aol.com September 6, 2009, 10:12 pm Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 8/24/2009 - 8/25/2009 Frankhouser, Richard "Cork" Richard Frankhouser CROFTON, MD Richard "Cork" Frankhouser, schoolteacher, coach, and all-around good guy, died Thursday, August 20, 2009, at the age of 62 from complications of prostate cancer. Cork was born February 19, 1947, in Reading, to Elmer and Margaret Frankhouser. Always modest, most don't know Cork played in the Little League World Series, was labeled one of the top 10 basketball players in the state during high school, and was voted Homecoming King his senior year. Cork received a B.S. from West Virginia University and later an M.S. from Loyola College in Maryland. He was a proud member of the Phi Delta Theta brotherhood. Cork taught P.E. for 40 years in Anne Arundel County, coached a number of notable athletes in both football and basketball, and scouted for the University of Maryland football program. Cork was an MSgt in the U.S. Army and also served in the Maryland National Guard. Cork lost his first wife, Pamela Life, of Parkersburg, W.Va., to breast cancer in 1993. In 1995, Cork married Carol Ann Critzman (n"e Perkins) of Pasadena, Md., and together they raised "the boys": Ryan D. Frankhouser, and William H. and Christopher M. Critzman in Crofton, Md. In 2006, the couple purchased a second home on the Delaware Bay where they enjoyed each other, their great and extended family, and their pontoon boat. Cork is survived by his wife, Carol, of Crofton; sister, Carol "Toot" of Lebanon; children, William of New York, N.Y., Ryan of Crofton, Md., and Chris of Pasadena, Md.; and grandchildren. Austin and Logan Frankhouser. A memorial service celebrating Cork's life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Beall's Funeral Home, 6512 Crain Hwy, Bowie, Md. (301-805-5544).
