He was the husband of Louise Keller Frantz, with whom he celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this past June. Born in Lebanon on January 21, 1922, he was the son of the late Frederick S. Frantz Sr., Charlotte Tear Frantz, and Rachel Evans Frantz. He was a nuclear physicist employed by Westinghouse Corp., Pittsburgh. Fred was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a 1939 graduate of Lebanon High School, a graduate of Lebanon Valley College, and received his master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He was also a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Annville, and was a former member and active leader of Centerville Lutheran Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Frederick K., husband of Peggy Frantz of Marcy, N.Y.; three daughters, the Rev. Charlotte Frantz of Duluth, Minn., Marjorie Frantz, wife of David Coren of Golden, Colo., and Rachel, wife of Ron Jones of Concord, N.C.; five grandchildren, Brian and Carolyn Frantz, Jesse and Dana Coren, and Alex Frantz; and a sister, Priscilla Wolf of Lebanon. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Garhart. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of the Lebanon Valley Home, 550 E. Main Street, Annville, PA 17003. Interment will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery with military honors. Viewing will be held on Monday from 1011 a.m., prior to the service at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lebanon Valley Home or the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 418 Maxwell Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
