He was born on September 1, 1926, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, to the late Charles W. and Edna Gettle. He was a graduate of Lebanon High School in 1944. Richard was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the American Legion and The Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he was a member of the drum and bugle corps. Richard was a wellknown member of the Addison Trials Booster Club and a volunteer at St. Philip School in Addison. He was a graduate of DeVry School of Electronics and was employed for many years by Motorola and Quasar until his retirement. He loved his family, traveling, and his dog, Baby. Richard worshipped in the Christian faith. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Lorraine, and his daughter, Laura Lynn and friend Steve Schuning. He was the grandfather to Joseph Suchowski Sr. and great grandfather to Joseph Suchowski Jr. and Joshua Suchowski. He has one great-great grandchild, Kylie. Also surviving are brothers Robert and wife, Gladys, of Lebanon, Pa., Karl and wife, Linda, of Mt. Gretna, Pa., Bruce and daughter, Kathy, of Mt. Gretna, Pa., Harry Greenawalt of Sinking Spring, Pa., and sisters Caroll Ann of Lebanon, Pa., and Helen of Annville, Pa. Richard was preceded in death by mother, Kathryn R. Gettle, sister, June E., and brother, Charles. He leaves behind nieces and nephews. He is described as a loving father, friendly, generous, sense of humor, calm, supporter/ volunteer, practical, caring, and "Blessed with a calm spirit," according to his 1944 yearbook. A funeral mass will be held to celebrate Richard's life on July 17 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Philip the Apostle Parish, 1233 W. Holtz Ave., Addison, Ill. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. on July 16 at the Humes Funeral Home, 320 W. Lake St., Addison, Ill. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Ave., 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851.
