John F. The Rev. John F. Greaney, 78, of 675 Rutherford Road, Harrisburg, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at his residence. Born November 1, 1930, in Holyoke, Mass., he was the son of the late James J. and Bridget Curran Greaney. He was the last pastor of the former St. Gertrude's Church in Lebanon. He served that congregation for 25 years, from 19701995. He was educated in St. Jerome's Elementary & High School in Holyoke. He graduated from St. Charles Seminary, Cantonsville, Md., completed his studies for priesthood at St. Charles Seminary, Overbrook, Pa., and served as pastor to both Our Lady of Good Counsel, Marysville, and St. Bernadette in Duncannon, Perry County, Pa. Surviving are one brother, Gerald T. Greaney of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a brother, James Greaney; and a sister, Mary E. Curran. Funeral Mass celebrated by the Most Reverend Kevin C. Rhoades, Bishop of Harrisburg, on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Church of St. Cecilia, 202 E. Lehman St., Lebanon, PA 17046. Viewing hours Tuesday morning from 8-11 at the church. Interment on Friday from St. Jerome Cemetery, Holyoke, Mass. No flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of St. Cecilia. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Lebanon, is in charge of the arrangements.
