Luella R. Habecker, 90, of Oak Street, Lebanon, died Monday, January 5, 2009, in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. Born September 2, 1918, in Palmyra, she was a daughter of the late Allen A. and Minnie (Longenecker) Evans. She was valedictorian of the Palmyra High School Class of 1936, and a graduate of Central Pennsylvania Business College, had previously worked in the offices of Landis Shoe Company and The Valley Trust Company, and was a Golden Star member of the Palmyra Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, having joined September 19, 1939. A lifelong member of Palmyra First United Methodist Church, she held offices in the United Methodist Women at the church and, more recently, in the Jacob Albright District, and helped for many years in the Sunday school kindergarten and primary departments. She enjoyed attending Mt. Gretna Bible Conference and Bible Festival, as well as reading, writing letters, and attending musical programs at Lebanon Valley College, Annville. Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Clyde E. Habecker; children Susan, wife of Kenneth U. Haupt of Montgomery, Alabama, Harriet, wife of Robert L. Doll of Lebanon, David Habecker, husband of Barbara Gagnon of Tecumseh, Michigan, and Dr. Perry, husband of Gail Habecker of Coatesville; seven grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; a niece; and several nephews. She was preceded in death by brother Russell Evans, and sisters Pauline Evans and Erma Evans. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 2009, at Buse Funeral Home, 145 North Grant Street, Palmyra, with burial in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra. Viewings 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, and 10 – 11 a.m. Thursday, both at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3544 North Progress Avenue, Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
