Marianna W. Hagan, 82, of Lititz, and formerly of Manheim, passed away at Moravian Manor, Lititz, on Saturday, June 20, after a brief illness. Born in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late J. Maley and Marion Casey Wenz. Marianna was the wife of Harry J. "Hank" Hagan, and they observed their 58th wedding anniversary in September of last year. Marianna graduated from Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, in 1945, with which she kept close ties for the rest of her life. Marianna expressed her love of cooking at Chef's Bazaar, a cookware shop she owned from 1969-1993. She opened her first shop in Manheim in a section of her family's home. The shop quickly grew in popularity, leading Marianna to open additional shops over the years in Lancaster and Brickerville. To many, Marianna was considered ahead of her time by offering cooking classes, featuring chefs from across the country and as far away as Italy. Because Marianna loved Lancaster County and all of its treasures, she worked at the Pennsylvania Dutch Tourist Bureau, helping visitors find their way around and offering suggestions to make family vacations much more memorable. Throughout her life, Marianna was an active and faithful member of St. James Catholic Church, Lititz, and early in her life was a member of St. Richard Catholic Church, Manheim. Her interests included: knitting, reading, traveling, sailing, skiing, and volunteering her time at Mathew 25 Thrift Shop and the Moravian Manor. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her 6 daughters: Kathleen M. "Kate" Ritter of Lititz; Nadine A., wife of Christopher Holladay of Carlisle; Lisa W., wife of Danny Alexander of Annville; Carol J., wife of William Kelly of Manheim; Marianna L. "Marnie," wife of Stephen Bowers of Mount Joy; and Janine P., wife of Roger Reynard of Boise, Idaho; and her 4 sons: Gregory S., husband of Teresa Riden Hagan of Columbia; Kevin M., husband of Debra Miller Hagan of Gainesville, Virginia; David A., husband of Cynthia Geib Hagan of Manheim; and Daniel J., husband of Jennifer Manning Hagan of Pennsburg; 19 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Marianna is also survived by 3 sisters: Margaret Riling of Philadelphia; Ellen, wife of Jerome McCauley of Punta Gorda, Florida; and Kathleen, wife of Joseph Burgoyne of Philadelphia. She is preceded in death by her brother-in-law Joseph Riling. Marianna's family would like to say thank you to everyone for your thoughts, prayers, support, and love. She will be missed more than a "smidgeon" by her family and friends. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with a Christian Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m. On Thursday, June 25, 2009, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Catholic Church, 505 Woodcrest Avenue, Lititz, at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend James O'Blaney as celebrant. Prior to the mass, on Thursday beginning at 9:30 a.m., there will be additional visitation with the family at the church. Following the mass, a luncheon will be held at the Fellowship Hall at St. James Catholic Church. Final Commendation and Farewell in Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Penn Township, will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, Marianna's family requests donations be made to the Milagro House, 669 West Chestnut Street, Lancaster, PA 17603. The Buch Funeral Home Manheim is in charge of the arrangements.
