Herbert F. Hawley, 80, Lebanon, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, in the Hershey Medical Center. He was the husband of Carol R. Sorel Hawley. He was born in Merced, CA, on August 11, 1928, son of the late Floyd J. and Muriel Young Hawley. He was a retired Senior Chief Electrician's Mate in the U.S. Navy with 22 years service and a veteran of WW II, Korea and Vietnam. He was also a retired teacher with 11 years service in the Bayside High School, Virginia Beach, VA, and a self-employed electrician. He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Lebanon. He was a member of the National Chess Club, enjoyed RC airplanes, collecting coins, boating, and engines of all types, being a member of the Antique Outboard Motor Club. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters: Sarahelizabeth, wife of Charles Pergrossi, FL; Muriel Elaine, wife of Ken Harvey, Myerstown; 6 grandchildren; 5 greatgrandchildren; brothers: Alfred Hawley and wife Stephanie, AZ, and John Hawley and wife Lola, CA. He was preceded in death by sons: Herbert F. Hawley Jr. and John Edward Hawley. Private family services will be held with interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The Rohland Funeral Home Inc., Lebanon, is in charge of arrangements.
