Mabel G. Hollowell, 78, of Lebanon and formerly of Cleona, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Walter E. Hollowell Jr. Born in Jonestown on October 25, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Paul A. and Emma Gerberich Gerhart. A graduate of Jonestown High School, she attended Lebanon Valley College and graduated from Johns Hopkins nursing school in Baltimore as a BS RN. After working in several hospitals, she worked in the office of Dr. James Monteith in Annville. She retired from Northern Lebanon High School, where she was the school nurse from 1965 to 1993. A member of St. John's UCC in Jonestown, she was involved in the Annville UCC Home Auxiliary. She participated in Cleona Senior Citizens, New Horizons, Lebanon educators honor society and YMCA-VA swimming, and was a 48year member of a pinochle card club. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society and the St. John's Relay for Life team. She was the education officer in the USCG Auxiliary and enjoyed traveling with the Bounder Motorhome Travel Club. A loving mother and friend, she is survived by her son Edward W. (Diane) of Palm City, FL; her daughter Karen H. (Richard) Harner of Midland, MI; brothers Paul (Ruth) Gerhart of Annville and Herbert (Marsha) Gerhart of Sandy Pond, NY; sisters Eleanor Hollowell of Jonestown, and Carrie (Sam) Carter of Fresno, CA; 5 grandchildren; 9 nieces and nephews; and 16 great-nieces and greatnephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 8, 2009, at 10:00 am at St. John's United Church of Christ in Jonestown. Viewing will be held on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the church and prior to the service on Monday. Interment will be at Grand View Memorial Park, North Annville Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's UCC Relay for Life Team, P.O. Box 688, Jonestown, PA 17038 Arrangements are in the care of the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown.
