Hutchinson, Sr., 89, died on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at Maple Farm Nursing Center in Akron. He was the widower of Elizabeth V. Hutchinson, who died in 2003. Sterling was born in Lebanon, to the late John L. and Alice Hutchinson and was a member of Brickerville United Lutheran Church. He had worked as a Plasterer for various contractors in the area, was a Driver for Wolf Motor Trucking Co., and later was employed by Gooding, Simpson & Mackes as a Yard Foreman. A U.S. Army Veteran, Sterling served during World War II in the European Theater and was a member of Cocalico Post 3376 VFW in Ephrata. Sterling enjoyed trout fishing, Phillies baseball, woodworking, and spending time with his family. Surviving are two sons, Sterling E. Hutchinson, Jr., husband of Linda of Ephrata, and Paul F. Hutchinson, husband of Bonnie of Ephrata; two daughters, Linda M., wife of Walter Hendersen of Middletown, and Karen E., wife of Terry Long of Denver; eight grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Sterling was preceded in death by five brothers; two sisters; and one stepgrandson, Steven Long. Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Paul L. Gravenor Home For Funerals, Inc., 100 W. Main St., Ephrata. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Cliff R. Hanus officiating. Interment, with military honors accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard, will be held in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Brickerville.
