Jefferies, Sr. PALMYRA James Edwin Jefferies, Sr., 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. He joins the love of his life, Kathryn M. (Capp) Jefferies, in eternal life with their Savior Jesus Christ. He was born Tuesday, August 2, 1921, in N. Londonderry Twp., to the late James Landis and Jennie Minerva (Schaffner) Jefferies. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII and the Korean War, earning a Bronze Star and a Bronze Arrowhead. He had worked as a maintenance mechanic for Olivetti Corp. of America, as a plastering contractor, in the sign shop for the State Highway Dept., and as a N. Londonderry Twp. clerk and per capita assessor. He was a member of St. John's E.C. Church where he taught Sunday School, served as Secretary for 27 years, served on the Steward Board, Trustee Board, building committee, and Seybert Prayer Fellowship Group. He was a life member of the Steelstown Gunning Club where he served as secretary and financial secretary. He was active with the Boy Scouts for over 30 years. He is survived by a son, James E. Jefferies, Jr. and wife, Brenda of Palmyra; a daughter, Judy M. Jurell and husband, Kenneth of Palmyra; eight grandchildren, Teresa Ardini, Rose LaBox, Vicki Ford, Kory Blauch, Brittni Hoke, Kendra Jurell, Jennifer Jurell, and Chelsi Jefferies; six greatgrandchildren; and one sister, Martha Kurtz of Palmyra. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard J. Jefferies, and a sister, Verna Jones. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's E.C. Church, 683 Steelstown Road, Annville, 17003 with Pastor William J. McEllroy, Jr. officiating. Friends and family are invited for a time of viewing Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, 17078 and Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service. Burial with full military honors will follow in Steelstown Cemetery, N. Annville Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's E.C. Church, Grove Building Fund; or Palmyra Caring Cupboard, 131 N. Railroad St., Palmyra, PA 17078.
