Keesey, 83, passed away Monday, September 14, 2009, in Schuylkill Medical Center South. Born on July 2, 1926, in Pine Grove Twp., he was a son of the late John and Minnie Stahl Keesey. He attended the Suedberg Church of God, Pine Grove. George was a army veteran of WWII having been a private 1st class. His specialty was a rifleman in the Co. E 232nd Infantry. He was in central Europe during the war and received the Army of Occupation Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He was employed as a pipefitter. He also had a private pilot's license. He was a member of Plumbers & Pipefitter Local 520 having been initiated in 1951 and was a member for 58 years. He was active member for 40 years and a retired member for 18 years. He retired on June 1, 1991. He was also a member of the Old Forge Fishing Club, a lifetime member of VFW Post 3432, Pine Grove, and the American Legion Post 374, Pine Grove. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Reed Keesey; his beloved daughter, Cheryl Denise Hammond; one brother, John Keesey; and two sisters, Evelyn Miller and Patsy Keesey. He was a beloved father to his two surviving daughters Candace Desiree Schaeffer and Charmaine Deneen Hassler, both of Pine Grove; and was close to his five grandchildren, Courtney Hammond, Tracy Costenbader, Ciara Hassler, Harrison Leisey, Chad Schaeffer; and three great grandchildren; a sister, Anna Mae Miller of Williamsport; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Monday, September 21, 2009, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove. There will be a procession leaving at 10:20 a.m. from the Funeral Home to Indiantown Gap National Cemetery for the committal service with Pastor Terry Jansma officiating. The family would prefer, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 16 N. Fourth St., Minersville, PA 17954, in his memory.
