Alyce G. Krause, 94, of Mount Joy was called home on February 27, 2009. Born in Lawrence, Mass., on April 19, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Martha Dorn Gremlitz. She was married for 62 years to the late George D. Krause II, who died in 2004. She was a graduate of the Rhode Island Hospital School for Nursery Maids, and worked as a children's nurse and office nurse for one of the first pediatricians in Rhode Island. During World War II, she was employed at Camp Wheeler Hospital in Macon, Ga. She founded the first program for disabled children in Lebanon through United Cerebral Palsy (later Developmental and Disability Services) and later served as executive director. She resided for nearly 30 years in Mt. Gretna and later lived in College Park, Ga., and Ocean View, Del., before moving to Mount Joy. She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elizabethtown. Alyce was a wonderful cook, her specialties being soup and oldfashioned Christmas cookies. She enjoyed card and board games, reading, and was a devoted walker until her last illness. Earlier, she was an avid gardener and enjoyed preserving her harvest. She is survived by five daughters, Jeanie Bachand (George) of Mount Joy, Marti Bailey (Dave) of Palmyra, Nikki Crisfield (George) of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, Patty of Atlanta, Ga., and Kathy Musser (John) of Mount Joy. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; and her brother, Richard Gremlitz of Tucson, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her brother, Walter. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 125 East High Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022; or MilanofSchock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, PA 17552.
