She was 90 years old. She was born in Middlesboro, KY, the youngest of the six children of Susie and Samuel Weinstein. She and her parents moved to Nashville, TN, in 1932, where she attended Hume Fogg High School. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Vanderbilt University in 1940 with a degree in English and French. Jean married Herbert Levy on September 1, 1940, and moved to Lebanon the next day. Their marriage was blessed with love; Herbert died in 1994. Jean deeply valued family and friends who brought her great joy. She had a lifelong love of literature and learning, reviewing books for organizations and study groups. Her many interests included nature, traveling, cooking, playing bridge, and various activities that she could share with others. Jean owned and ran the Sample Store in Lebanon for 36 years, served on the boards of the Lebanon Community Library, Lebanon County Community Concert Association, Lebanon chapter of Hadassah, Beth Israel Sisterhood, American Association of University Women and the Mt. Gretna Winterites, and was a trustee of Lebanon Valley College. After moving to Cornwall Manor in 2000, Jean volunteered on a number of Manor committees. Jean is survived by her two daughters, Betty Cohen of Berkeley, CA, and Ruth Guyer of Bethesda, MD; her four grandchildren, Jonathan Cohen, Anya Guyer, Susanna Cohen, and Dana Guyer; her sons-inlaw Murray Cohen and Mark Guyer; and devoted nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 1 PM at Rohland's Funeral Parlor. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jean W. Levy Fund at either Beth Israel Synagogue, 411 South 8th Street, 17042, or at the Lebanon Community Library, 125 N. 7th Street, 17046.
