Beverly J. Manbeck, 65, of Cornwall, Pa., died Thursday, February 5, 2009, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Thomas E. Manbeck, who died March 4, 1997. Born in Pottsville, Pa., on November 22, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Warren D. and Catherine L. (Barry) Reed. Valedictorian of her class, she graduated in 1961 from Pine Grove High School. She received her B.A. degree from the University of Delaware and her Master's of Education degree from Kutztown University. She taught history and English for many years at Tulpehocken and Northern Lebanon High School. She was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Myerstown, Pa.; a past board member of the Lebanon County Historical Society; member of the Pennsylvania Historical Society, where she received an award for Volunteer of the Year in Pennsylvania; served on the board of the Cornwall Iron Furnace; and was a member of the Historic Preservation Trust of Lebanon County. She enjoyed history, baking, volunteering, cooking and gardening, and spending time with family. She is survived by a son, Thomas, husband of Pamela Manbeck of Cornwall.; grandchildren T. Joshua and Caroline Manbeck, both of Cornwall; sisters Rosalie, wife of Joe Denardo of Rutland, Vermont, Sally, wife of Scott Lamm of Wernersville, Pa., Valarie Reed, companion of Robert Betz of Shoemakersville, Pa.; brothers Daniel Reed of Reading, Pa., and Bruce, husband of Linda Reed of Robesonia, Pa.; greataunt Dorothy Barry of Donaldson, Pa.; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Michele J. Manbeck; sister Cheryl Zimmerman; and brother Frank Reed. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 13, 2009, at 11 a.m. from Friedens Lutheran Church, Myerstown, Pa. There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends Friday at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment at Donaldson Community Cemetery, Frailey Township, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cornwall Iron Furnace, 94 Rexmont Road, Cornwall, PA 17016; or the Lebanon Historical Society, 924 Cumberland St., Lebanon, PA 17042. Grose Funeral Home, Myerstown, is in charge of arrangements.
