Martin PALMYRA Lester Nolt Martin, 91, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife of 28 years, Lois (Gish) Kurtz Martin, by his side on Friday, November 20, 2009. He was preceded in death by a wife, Eva (Hershey) Martin, on June 5, 1976. He was born Tuesday, April 16, 1918, in Blue Ball, to the late Harry H. and Emma (Nolt) Martin. Lester and Eva started housekeeping in New Holland. He then spent two and a half years with the Civilian Public Service in Luray, Va., and one year with the Dairy Herd Improvement Assoc. in Michigan. After working for Victor F. Weaver, Inc. and then farming in Lebanon County, he worked for ACME Markets for 25 years. Lester and Lois lived in Elizabethtown and attended church at Mt. Calvary Church of Elizabethtown prior to moving to the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home in May 2008. Lester is survived by a son, Larry N. Martin and wife, Diane of Myerstown; two grandsons, Todd N. Martin and wife, Christy of Houston, Texas, and Adam R. Martin and wife, April of Woodbridge, Va.; two greatgranddaughters, Lilly and Grace Martin; one sister, Grace N. Good of Garden Spot Village, New Holland; five stepsons, Barry J. Kurtz and wife, Mary of Adams, Minn., John E. Kurtz and wife, Karen of Antioch, Tenn., David W. Kurtz and wife, Mary, and Fred E. Kurtz and wife, Sandy, all of Elizabethtown, and Edward L. Kurtz of Lititz; one stepdaughter, Janet L. Rhen and husband, James of Quarryville; 14 stepgrandchildren; and seven step greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Allen N. Martin; and five sisters, Edna N. Nolt, Mary N. Burkholder, Irene N. Martin, Emma N. Landis, and Edith N. Weaver. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 23, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Di Matteo Worship Center, Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, 1200 Grubb St., Palmyra, PA 17078 with Chaplin Norman D. Yeater officiating. Private burial will take place in the Jonestown Bible Church Cemetery, Jonestown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lebanon Valley Brethren Home or Pinnacle Health Hospice, 2465 N. Third St., Suite 300, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
