Murphy Sr., 82, passed away, Thursday, September 3, 2009, at Spang Crest Manor Nursing Home. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Margaret (Reilly) Murphy. John was the husband of Dorothy (Waltz) Murphy, with whom he celebrated 13 years of marriage this past August 17. He was previously married to the late Elizabeth F. (Shahadi) Murphy. John proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was then employed by the IRS for 31 years. John was a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus Chapter #12532, also in Chapter #0915, a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and their Over 50 Club, the American Legion Post 0056 Garden Spot, VFW Post 9465 Essington, NARFE of Lancaster, and Commercial Travelers. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Dorothy, are a son, John E. Murphy Jr., husband of JoAnne of Maytown; a stepdaughter, Linda Mansour, wife of Gabi of Claymont, Del.; three grandchildren, Lauren J. Murphy, Jared B. Murphy, and Bryn A. Murphy; two stepgrandchildren, Adam M. Derr and Abbie Derr; one step great-grandson; five stepchildren, Sherry L. Williams, wife of Joel of Lebanon, Randolph Frick of Lebanon, Shelley L Arnold, wife of Ray, Jr. of Lebanon, Sharon Courtier, wife of Scott of Lebanon, and Sheree Hemperly of Annville; six stepgrandchildren; and one step great-granddaughter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 125 S. Spruce St., Annville, with the Rev. John Peck as Celebrant. Family and friends will be received Monday at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, from 5 to 7 p.m. and again on Tuesday at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. The Rosary will be recited at 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home Monday. Interment will follow Mass at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
