Pankake, 81, died Monday, December 7, 2009, in the Lebanon VA Medical Center. Born February 6, 1928, in Grantville, he was a son of the late George and Gertrude (Seaman) Pankake. He was the widower of Helen S. (Farver) Pankake who died June 17, 2004, and was also preceded in death by siblings, G. Seaman Pankake, Warren Pankake, John Pankake, Josephine Grubb, May Juran, and Ruth Dechert. Retiring in 1990 from Dechert Dynamics, Palmyra, he was a member of Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, Palmyra; Dauphin County and Lebanon County Honor Guards; Palmyra American Legion #72; Hershey Coin Club; East Fork Sportsmen's Club, Wharton; a member, Past Commander, and Chaplain for the Shellsville V.F.W. #9639; and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a volunteer on the Pride of the Susquehanna, distributed Buddy poppies to benefit the V.F.W., loved to play bingo at the Lebanon VA, and enjoyed hunting, golfing, and bowling. Surviving are his children, Thomas Paul Pankake of York Springs, Tamara Kay Pankake of Harrisburg, and Timothy David, husband of Sue Pankake of Hershey; siblings, Christian, husband of Janet Pankake of Austin, Jean Garrison of Palmyra, and Donald Pankake of Grantville; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, 131 Gravel Hill Road, Palmyra. Viewings will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, both at the church. Interment with military honors will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra. Memorial contributions may be made to Shellsville V. F. W. #9639 Service Fund, 8926 Jonestown Road, Grantville, PA 17028; or to Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, 131 Gravel Hill Road, Palmyra, PA 17078.
