Walter J. Pheasant, 85, of Grantville died Thursday, June 25, 2009 in the M. S. Hershey Medical Center. Born August 18, 1923 in Johnstown, he was a son of the late Clarence and Edith (Peterson) Pheasant. The widow of Cordelia E. (Fritz) Pheasant, who died November 17, 2001, he was also preceded in death by a daughter Barbara Keiser May 17, 2005 and brothers Franklin and Robert Pheasant. He retired as fleet manager from GannettFleming, Camp Hill and previously worked in their computer operations. A former employee of IBM in Baltimore and Washington, D. C.; he also worked for TRW, Harrisburg; the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue at Penn National Race Course, and was a Justice of the Peace in Dauphin County. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Grantville; East Hanover Township Autumn Leaves; Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Zembo Shrine Mounted Patrol and Ushers; Robert Burns Lodge #464 F. & A.M.; Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite; Shrine's of North America; Coast Guard Auxiliary, and AARP. A charter and life member of the Grantville Volunteer Fire Company, he was a volunteer at the M. S. Hershey Medical Center and was an avid horseman and boater. Surviving are his children L. Craig, husband of Patsy Pheasant of Grantville; Patricia, wife of Garry Van Scyoc of Palmyra; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church 10310 Jonestown Road, Grantville. Viewings will be held 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday at Buse Funeral Home, 145 North Grant Street, Palmyra and Wednesday 10:00 – 11:00 AM Wednesday at the church. A Masonic Service will be conducted 5:45 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Grantville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, PO Box 275, Grantville, PA 17028.
