Reed, 88, died peacefully on December 24, 2009, of COPD. Mrs. Reed was the devoted wife of the late Richard E. Reed, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. Reed were married for 70 years at the time of Mr. Reed's death in June, 2009. Mrs. Reed was born in Newmanstown, on September 2, 1921. She attended Newmanstown High School until 1937 and married Richard on September 11, 1938. Mrs. Reed was a homemaker and full-time mother for many years. She raised two sons and a daughter, working part-time to supplement the family income once all three children were in school. After the children were grown, she worked in retail sales and managed a retail bread store in Port Charlotte, Fla., after moving there with her husband in 1973, upon his retirement. She was an accomplished pianist until her later years, when arthritis made it difficult to play. She had a great love of cooking and enjoyed many other hobbies including knitting, bowling, sewing, cards, bingo, and games of all sorts. She dearly loved animals and supported many charities for their benefit. She was her husband's close companion throughout their married life and traveled the United States and Canada at his side. Mrs. Reed is survived by her children, Richard E. Reed, Jr. and his wife, June Nazarian-Reed of Potomac, Md., Robert E. Reed and his wife, Sherry L. Reed of Exton, and Royal Sanders James and her husband, Richard James of Tampa, Fla.; close cousins, Richard Grimes and his wife, June Grimes, Sally Ann Hoffa and her husband, Donald Hoffa, and Andrew Schoener and his wife, Rhea Schoener; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Bergman and Loretta Gromis. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Stephanie M. Reed of Philadelphia, Jonathan R. Reed of West Chester, and Elisabeth Christenson and her husband, Daniel Christenson of Lutz, Fla.; as well as her greatgranddaughter, Mia Grace Christenson; and many nieces and nephews. Miss Mia Grace, daughter of Elisabeth and Daniel, was a bright spot in her life during her final years. A memorial service is planned for 2:30 on Sunday, April 11, at the Millcreek Lutheran Church, to be followed by a short graveside service. After the services there will be food and refreshments for all guests at the Millcreek Lutheran Church. Family and all friends are welcome to attend.
