Walnut St., formerly of Pine Grove, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2009, in Schuylkill Medical Center South. Born on December 18, 1920, in Pottsville, he was a son of the late John F. and Anna M. Jacobs Riegel. He was an Army veteran of WWII, having served in Rhineland and Ardennes. He was a member of Co. A 63rd Armored Inf. Battalion. He received the Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Thr Service Medal, EAME Thr Service Medal, two Bronze Stars, and Victory Medal. James worked for the Garden State Tannery in Fleetwood and also worked at Paul Schneck's farm in Pine Grove. He attended the Donaldson United Methodist Church. Preceding him in death were his wife, Dorothy M. Roeder Riegel, on December 25, 2004; a step greatgrandson, Joseph Lee Eisenhauer; six brothers, Lester, Wilmer, Edgar, Guy, Claude, and Harold Riegel; and a sister, Eva Schappel. Surviving are his son, Charles and wife, Joanne Riegel of Grantville; three grandsons, Timothy Riegel and Robert Riegel, both of Grantville, and Jeffrey and wife, Rose Riegel of Donaldson; two greatgrandsons, Justin Michael Riegel and Joshua Michel Riegel; three stepgrandchildren, Keith Wolfe of Grantville, and Shawn Miller and Kristen Miller, both of Lebanon; two step great-grandsons, Jeffrey Albert, Jr. and Timothy Eisenhauer, Jr.; two step great-greatgranddaughters, Samantha Eisenhauer and Alexis Albert; five brothers, Paul Riegel of Cressona, Russel Riegel of Willow Grove, Earl Riegel of Ashland, Clayton Riegel of Roslyn, and Robert Riegel of Reedsville; and three sisters, Grace Schaeffer of Pine Grove, Hilda Moffit of Reedsville, and Anna Eisenhower of Schaefferstown. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at 11 a.m. from the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc. with Dr. Ira Lydic officiating. There will be a viewing on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hetzel's Cemetery, Pine Grove.
