John F. John Rzecka F. John Rzecka, 86, of 429 Jonestown Road, Jonestown, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, in the Tremont Health & Rehabilitation Center, Tremont, Pa. He was the husband of Helen Kaczyk Rzecka. Born in Philadelphia on October 28, 1922, he was the son of the late Adolph and Sophia Rymsha Rzecka. He was a retired carpenter, with 35 years of service at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, and enjoyed bowling, woodworking and collecting boats and lighthouses. He was a member of the Perseverance Fire Co., AMVETS, American Legion, Lebanon 40 & 8 Club, VFW, and the Military Order of The Purple Heart. He was a U.S. Army veteran, who proudly served his country from February 1941November 1945. He landed on Normandy with Co. G., 358th Inf., 90th Inf. Division. Although wounded twice, he was returned to the division and remained until November 1945. He received the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, and four Campaign Ribbons. He was sergeant-at-arms of Lebanon Legion Post 158, and was in charge of the honor squad, which provides honors at funerals of deceased veterans. Surviving in addition to his wife, Helen, are a daughter, Linda Marie Brown of Lebanon; five grandchildren, Annemarie Anderson, Michael Sebastian, Nikki Brown, Courtney Brown and Emily Brown; two greatgrandchildren, Sara Price and Devon Sebastian; one brother, Joseph of Virginia. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan McAvoy; and a granddaughter, Mandy Brown. Funeral Mass Monday at 11 from St. Mary's Church, 2 N. Eighth St., Lebanon. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Viewing hours Monday morning, 9-11, at the church. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 126 S. Ninth St., in charge of arrangements.
