Saporito, 77, of 7 Katy Lane, died Monday, August 10, 2009, in the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was the husband of Concetta Tarantino Saporito. Born in Jersey City, N.J., on April 3, 1932, he was the son of the late Samuel and Rose D'Addurno Sabato. Gabe was employed by Kearfott in the model shop, where as general foreman, he was involved in producing protoype and mission ready navigation and communication systems for programs such as NASA's Gemini, Apollo, and Space Shuttle missions. He was also a well-renowed banquet chef and caterer throughout Northern New Jersey. Gabe was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a charter member of the Italian American Independence Club in Totowa, N.J. He was an excellent provider for his family and was a member of The Church of St. Cecilia, Lebanon. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Connie, are two children, Concetta, wife of Bill Alpers of Lancaster, and Gabe, husband of Laura Saporito of Philippi, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Will, husband of Pamela Alpers, Brian Alpers, and Gabriella, Anna, Abby, and Rachel Saporito; one brother, Michael Saporito; and two sisters, Estelle Lisky and Gloria Carey. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Samuel Saporito; and two sisters, Tina DeCristofano and Josephine Flannigan. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 17, from The Church of St. Cecilia, 202 E. Lehman St., Lebanon. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Viewing hours are Sunday afternoon from 2 to 6 p.m. and Monday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 126 S 9th St., Lebanon.
