Norman W. Shaak, 84, of Manor Care, formerly of 101 Nancy Drive, Myerstown, died Friday, June 26, 2009 in Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon. He was born August 7, 1924 to the late Monroe and Mary Smith Shaak in Berks County. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ-Hamlin. He was a steel worker for Quaker Alloy. He was also a Deacon and Elder at his church. He enjoyed creating wood crafts, gardening and was a volunteer for the Schaefferstown Fire Company carnival. He also loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving is son Larry L. spouse of Evelyn Shaak of Lebanon; daughters Loretta spouse of the late John W. Seibert, Lebanon, Lu spouse of Steve Layser of Myerstown; sisters Helen Eisenhauer of Myerstown, Verdie Gassert of Bethel; brother Lester Shaak of Wernersville; grandchildren Richard Tobias, Melissa Tobias, Shannon spouse of Andy Ruth, Christopher Layser, Matthew Layser; great grandchildren Kimberly Grace Tobias, Ellie Ruth, Madison Young, Chase Young, Maya Ruth; Son-in-law Norman Tobias of Lebanon. He was preceded in death by wife Arlene G. Gundrum Shaak (8/17/2004) and brother Luther Shaak. Services will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's United Church of Christ-Hamlin, Fredericksburg, with viewing one hour prior to the service.
