Michael A. Sharkey, 55 of Hummelstown died suddenly as a result of a motorcycle accident on July 3, 2009. He was born on January 20th, 1954, in Lebanon and was the son of the late Allen and Frances (Harmuth) Sharkey. Mike was a graduate of Palmyra High School where he was an outstanding athlete and record-holder. He was also a graduate of Harrisburg Area Community College. "Sharkey" was employed by Lebanon Valley Cycles. Mike will be greatly missed by his wife of 32 years, Eileen Boyd Sharkey and his three children, 2nd Lt. Alex Sharkey, US Army, Maura and Patrick, both at home; his sister Marjorie, Annville, brothers, Stephen of Colorado and Daniel of California. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Andrew and was loved by his many inlaws and nieces and nephews. "Sharkey" will be remembered for his unique sense of humor and his generosity of both his time and talents to anyone in need. A notorious "Mr. Mom," he was an ardent supporter of his children's many athletic and academic endeavors. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Parish, where he was a great supporter/volunteer of the parish school. He had a great passion for motorcross racing that he shared with his sons. Always pursuing the light side of life, he was full of laughter and love as he uniquely left his mark on everyone he met. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9th at St. Joan of Arc Church, Hershey. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday July 8th at the Hoover Funeral Home, Hershey. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to "The Sharkey Children Education Fund," 434 Sunrise Blvd., Elizabethtown, PA 17022 or to the St. Joan of Arc "Heart of the Parish Fund," 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey, PA 17033.
