   Elizabeth R. "Betty" Shearer    
   
  Elizabeth R. "Betty" Shearer, 87, of Hershey passed away Thursday, January 15, 
  2009, in ManorCare, Elizabethtown. Mrs. Shearer was born November 29, 192,1 in 
  Hershey, a daughter of the late Paul Sr. and Leah (Fiddler) Hess. She was a 
  Hershey High School graduate, Class of "39," and the Lancaster General Hospital 
  School of Nursing. She was a nurse at the former Hershey Hospital and, later, 
  along with her husband, Hiram, operated the former Shearer's Pastery Shop in 
  Hershey for 27 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in 
  Hershey, where she sang in the Folk Choir and taught Sunday school for 40 
  years. Mrs. Shearer enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her family. 
  Surviving are her husband, Hiram Shearer; a son, Peter M. Shearer of Hershey; a 
  sister, Pauline Curry, and her husband, Irwin of Hershey; two sisters-inlaw, 
  Barbara Hess of South Carolina and Judy Hess of Hershey; and several nieces and 
  nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Jr. and Thomas Hess. 
  Services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. in her church. 
  Friends may call Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until service time. 
  Interment will be in the Hershey Cemetery. Please omit flowers. If desired, 
  memorial contributions may be made to the Organ Fund, c/o First United 
  Methodist Church, 64 W. Chocolate Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033. Hoover Funeral 
  Homes & Crematory Inc., Hershey, is handling the arrangements.
