She was the wife of the late Frederick J. Smith, Jr., who died in 1988. She was born on March 18, 1921. in Radford, VA, to Thomas and Hattie Lovell Radcliffe. She was the youngest living child of a Civil War veteran in America. She was a homemaker but retired from the wrapping department and the press room of the Hershey Foods Corporation. She was a member of the Lawn Evangelical Congregational Church and a longtime volunteer at the VA Medical Center, Lebanon. In 1989, she received the Jefferson Award for her volunteer work. She was an awesome cook, and she loved to make pies. Surviving are her children, sons John Smith and his wife, Natalie, of Tampa, FL; Thomas Smith and his wife, Kathy, Palmyra; Daniel Smith and his wife, Cynthia, Palmyra; Phillipp Smith and his wife, Jessica, Annville; James Smith and his wife, Susan, Telford; daughters Sandra Redman and her husband, James, Palmyra; Brenda Maderia and her husband, Kenneth, Palmyra; and Jeannette Weller and her husband, Randy, Annville; 12 grandchildren, 11 greatgrandchildren, 2 greatgreat-grandchildren.Her infant son, Douglas, preceded her in death as well as her 2 brothers, Ward and Leonard Radcliffe, and her sister, Hava Whitt. Relatives and friends are invited for a time of visitation on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, from 9:0010:00 AM at the Lawn Evangelical Congregational Church, followed by her funeral service at 10:00 with Rev. Glen L. Bennage officiating. Burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Compassionate Care Hospice, 1513 Cedar Cliff Drive, Suite 100 Camp Hill, PA 17011. Rothermel Funeral Home, Inc., is entrusted with funeral services.
