Smith, 84, formerly of The Williamsport Home, 1900 Ravine Road, died Friday, December 18, 2009, at The Williamsport Home following an extended illness. Born January 16, 1925, in Palmyra, she was the daughter of Eugene Patrick and Sara Fox Patrick. She is survived by her husband, Robert M. Smith of Williamsport. They were united in marriage on June 1, 1957, and enjoyed 52 years of marriage. Also surviving are five children and eight grandchildren: Winnie Kremser (Mike) of Montoursville and granddaughters, Kellie Kremser of Montoursville and Erin Kremser of Boston, Mass.; Sallie Pure (Norm) of Ithaca, N.Y., and grandchildren, Alissa, Emma, and Tyler Pure; Jim Smith of Pine Grove; John Smith (Tina) of Ephrata, and grandsons, Brandon, Kyle, and Alex Smith; and Eileen Bettig (Harry) of Amersfoort, The Netherlands. Also surviving are one sister, Evelyn Darkes of Elizabethtown, and one brother, Robert Patrick of Myerstown. Betty was a graduate of Palmyra High School and the Central PA Business School in Harrisburg. She then worked as a secretary for the Hershey Chocolate Company in the Purchasing Department for 14 years before getting married and starting a family. Before marriage, Betty traveled extensively with her parents and friends, having visited 48 states. Betty and Bob also enjoyed traveling together throughout the United States, and completed her goal of being in all 50 states by traveling to Alaska and Hawaii. A highlight of their travels was going to The Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa, in 1999 and having their marriage vows renewed. Betty's hobbies included doing crossword puzzles, sewing, handwork, baking, and quilting. She completed quilts for all the children and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at St. John's-Newberry United Methodist Church, 2101 Newberry St., Williamsport. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the St. John's Newberry United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in Betty's memory.
