Chocolate Ave., Hershey, died peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2009, in his residence. He was the husband of Evelena Geyer Smith. He was born in Wernersville, Berks County, on May 23, 1935, to David J. and Florence (Boyer) Smith Sr. After the death of his parents, he was raised at the Bethany Children's Home in Womelsdorf, Pa. He graduated from Thadius Stevens School of Technology in Lancaster. He served in the U. S. Army. He was formerly employed at the Kercher Machine Shop, Alcoa Aluminum Company, and Hershey Estates Machine Shop. He retired in 1997 from HERCO, working at Hersheypark as foreman of the machinists and welders. He owned and operated Smitty's Produce Stand at his residence in Hershey. He was a member of the First Evangelical Congregational Church in Palmyra, Ducks Unlimited, and AKC Susquehanna Retriever Club. His yellow Labrador "Hunter" is in the hall of fame. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Surviving in addition to his wife, Evelena, are his sons, Scott H., husband of Lori Smith of Hershey, and Steven D., husband of Dawn Smith of Lewisberry; a granddaughter, Alyssa A. Smith; and a brother, David, husband of Anna Mae Smith of Palmyra. Relatives and friends are invited for a time of viewing on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, from 9:30- 10:30 a.m. at the Rothermel Funeral Home Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, followed by his funeral at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Jan Fryer officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memorial Park, Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, PO Box 266, Enola, PA 17025. Rothermel Funeral Home Inc. is entrusted with funeral arrangements.
