Smith, 65, passed away Saturday morning, October 24, 2009, in his residence. Born in Blandon, he was the son of Aldene M. (Heverly) Smith of Frystown and the late Stanley S. Smith, Sr. Ronald was an Operating Engineer and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers #542 for 40 years. He was also a farmer. Ronald was a member of Little Swatara Church of the Brethren, Rehrersburg. Surviving are one son, Dean A. Smith and wife, Natalie R. of Upper Tulpehocken Twp.; two daughters, Rae L., wife of Timothy Derr of Frystown, and Jenny L., wife of Craig Luckenbill of Sinking Spring; one brother, Stanley S. Smith, Jr. of Myerstown; five grandchildren, Joe, Ryan, Steven, Jessie, and Cory; and one great-grandchild, Bentley. He is also survived by his companion, Deborah Niefeld. Ronald was predeceased by a grandson, Cody A. Smith. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Little Swatara Church of the Brethren, 31 Rehrersburg Road, Bethel, with the Rev. Robert W. Krouse officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, Bernville. Friends may call in Little Swatara Church of the Brethren on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to services. Contributions may be made to Four Diamonds Fund, P.O. Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033. The Kirkhoff Funeral Home, Bernville, is in charge of arrangements.
