M. shabodeho@aol.com December 26, 2009, 12:14 am Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 12/9/2009 Smith Jr., Walter L. Walter L. Smith, Jr. PALMYRA Walter Lake Smith, Jr., 70, of 984 E. Walnut St., died Monday, December 7, 2009, in his residence. He was the husband of Elizabeth Brumbaugh Smith. Born in Atlantic City, N.J., on July 18, 1939, he was the son of the late Walter Lake Smith, Sr. and Catharine Leifried Smith. He worked in Administration at Lebanon Valley College for 47 years, retiring this past October. He was a graduate of Pleasantville High School, Pleasantville, N.J., a 1961 graduate of Lebanon Valley College, and received his Master's Degree in Education from Temple University. Walt served in the National Guard. He was an active and long time member of First United Methodist Church of Palmyra; a member of Keystone Masonic Lodge #153 F.&A.M. of Linwood, N.J.; a member of the Annville American Legion Post 559; Vice-Chair of the Lebanon County Republican Committee; was elected as the Palmyra Tax Collector; served 10 years on the Palmyra School Board and was the school board representative to the Palmyra Public Library; served on the Council of Boy Scout Troop #477, Palmyra; and was active with the Palmyra Sharks Aquatic Club and served as their announcer. He was also in charge of the Off Ice Hockey Officials for Lebanon Valley College and served as their announcer, along with being the Off Ice Hockey Official for the Hershey Bears for over 40 years. Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a son, Walter L. Smith, III of Elizabethtown. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church, 520 E. Birch St., Palmyra. Interment will be in Grand View Memorial Park. Viewing will be held on Saturday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church with Masonic Services beginning at 8:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Palmyra Public Library, 325 S. Railroad St., Palmyra, PA 17078. Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, Annville, is in charge of arrangements.
