M. shabodeho@aol.com June 9, 2009, 12:07 pm Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 6/2/2009 Spayde, Harold Eugene "Sam" Harold "Sam" Eugene Spayde, 86, of Hershey, passed away Monday, June 1, 2009, in the Hershey Medical Center. Born in Hummelstown on May 10, 1923, he was the son of the late Webster C. and Helen M. Wheeler Spayde. Harold retired from the Hershey Medical Center in the Receiving Department. He also retired after 21 years of service from the U.S. Air Force, having served in World War II and Korea. Harold was a Mason and a Shriner in Tokyo, Japan. He was an avid photographer; enjoyed wood carving and making model airplanes and ships out of wood; and loved to entertain people with his harmonica and guitar. Harold is survived by his wife of 52 years, Retsuko "Miki" Kobayshi Spayde, whom he married on September 11, 1956; one daughter, Yoko Spayde of Annville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 4, 2009, at 12:00 noon in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with the Rev. Dr. Emlyn H. Jones officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township. Viewing will be in the funeral home Thursday from 11 AM until time of the services.
