Stayner, 80, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2009, at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill. He was born Sunday, October 14, 1928, in Atkins Mills, Pa., to the late Erma M. Casner. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Shirley M. (Miller) Stayner. He graduated from Mt. Union High School in 1947 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, 1st Cavalry Division, 5th Cavalry Regiment, having earned numerous medals including the Occupation Medal Japan, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, and United Nations Service Medal. He was an active member of Palm Lutheran Church, Palmyra Rotary with 42 years of perfect attendance and active in the Flag Project, Fraternal Order of Police, Palmyra American Legion, 1st Cav. Div. Assn., and 5th Cav. Assn. He retired in 1990 from E.O. Miller Chevrolet as Parts Manager, also having served as Service Manager earning Chevrolet's Service Managers "Only the Best Club" honors. He was an active volunteer at the Lebanon VA Hospital. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, tending to roses, working in the garden, and NASCAR racing. Most of all, he cherished spending time with the love of his life, Shirley. He is survived by a maternal aunt, Madeline Kane; a stepbrother, Paul Casner and wife, Barbara; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 21, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, with the Rev. Dr. John D. Merkel officiating. Friends and family are invited for a time of viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home and again on Monday from 9 a.m. until time of the service. Burial with full military honors will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Palm Lutheran Church, 11 W. Cherry St., Palmyra, PA 17078.
