John H. Stump, 73, of Jefferson Township, formerly of Penn Township, passed away February 12th in Baptist Hospital, Miami Florida. He was the husband of Rita A. (Gibbel) Stump. John and Rita were married for 51 years. Born in Marshall County, Indiana, he was the son of the late Clarence and Shella (Rottmiller) Stump. John was the owner and operator of Stumpland Dairy Farm in Penn Township for 46 years, until his retirement, when his family took over operations at the dairy farm. John also was a Mycogen Seed Co. salesman. John was a member of the Conservative Baptist Brethren Church, Frystown, where he was an adult Sunday school teacher, trustee, and auditor. John was the current president of the Berks County Farm Bureau, and was active in all levels of A. F. B. F. He was the recipient of the 2005 Master Farmer Award. John served on boards of the Holstein Association, D. H. I. A., Young Farmers, Centerport Milk Haulers, Penn Township, Zoning, and was a 4-H leader. Surviving are two sons, Doyle E., husband of Loretta Stump of York, Pa., and Duane C., husband of Victoria Stump of Bernville; four daughters, Debra L., wife of Mark Johns of Richland, Donna M., wife of Carl Hoffman of Troy, Pa., Doris K., wife of Darin Alspaugh of Bernville, and Denise F. Stump of Bernville; one brother, Paul L. Stump of Englewood, Ohio; and one sister, Ruth Burtner of Red Lion, Pa. There are 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by three sisters and five brothers. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Conservative Baptist Brethren Church, Frystown, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Justin Beck will officiate. Friends may call Wednesday from 24 and 6-9 p.m. in the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, 206 N. Main St., Bernville, and also Thursday, one hour prior to services in the church.
