Stumpf PALMYRA John Lawrence Stumpf, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 12, 2009, at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ethel I. (Snyder) Stumpf. He was born Sunday, July 28, 1918, in Freeland, Luzerne County, to the late Charles and Mary (Michaels) Stumpf. He retired from the U.S. Army with over twenty one years of service. He served in infantry and training, fought and was wounded in WWII and Korea, earning two Purple Hearts with Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, GMC Medal, Bronze Clasp with 31ps to GCM, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal. He was a member of Palm Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #559 Annville, Lifetime Member of Disabled American Veterans, Palmyra VFW Post #6427. He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl L. Hawbecker and husband, Jeffrey of Nazareth, and Judy L. Oliver and husband, Steven of Palmyra; three grandchildren, Victoria Williamson and husband, Andrew of Hong Kong, Stephanie Reifsnyder and husband, Jason of Lititz, and Caitlin Oliver of Middletown. Burial with full military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Lebanon VA Medical Center, Hospice Unit, 1700 S. Lincoln Ave., Lebanon, PA 17042. Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
