M. shabodeho@aol.com December 29, 2009, 8:20 pm Published in the Lebanon Daily News from 12/12/2009 - 12/13/2009 Wampler, Verna Verna Wampler PALMYRA Verna Margaret (Brubaker) Wampler, 92, peacefully passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at her home, the Royer House of Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra. She was the widow of Harry N. M. Wampler, who preceded her in death March 1, 1980. Verna was born July 26, 1917, in Lebanon County, the daughter of the late Clara M. (Stohler) and Abraham C. Brubaker. She attended Cleona Grammar School, was a graduate of the 1935 Class of Lebanon High School and graduated from the Bauer's Secretary College in 1936. Following college, she worked for Lustberg Nast Co. of Lebanon. On June 3, 1939, Verna married Harry Wampler. From 1942 to 1957, Verna and her husband were house parents on several Hershey Industrial farm homes, later called Milton Hershey School. She also later worked at the Hershey laundry and retired in 1979. She and her husband were members of the Annville Church of the Brethren and later became members of the Hanoverdale Church of the Brethren. Before moving to LVBH, she was a volunteer member of the LVBH Auxiliary and served as a receptionist at the home. She enjoyed playing the organ, singing in the choir, crocheting, sewing, gardening, canning, assembling jigsaw puzzles and reading the Bible. Verna is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jon Edmonds of York; a son, Barry Wampler of Harrisburg. She is also survived by four grandchildren, grandson, Michael and wife, Susanne Edmonds of York; granddaughter, Marjorie and husband, Jon Wallace of Ijamsville, Md.; grandson, Andrew and wife, Jenny Edmonds of Durham, N.C.; and granddaughter, Kristin Wampler of Greensboro, N.C.; four greatgrandchildren; Megan Edmonds, Hunter and Rachel Wallace, and Robinson Edmonds; and a brother, Howard Brubaker of Womelsdorf. She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Wampler; two brothers, Eugene and Lloyd Brubaker; and a sister, Helen Snavely. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at the Hanoverdale Church of the Brethren in Hanoverdale, preceded by a viewing at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December, 15, 2009. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisburg. Funeral arrangements are by the Hoover Funeral Home in Hershey, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund, Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, 1200 Grubb Street, Palmyra, PA 17078. The family wishes to recognize and thank the nurses and staff at the LVBH for all their care and love over the past years.
