Evelyn S. Ward, age 82, lawyer, aviator and community service organizer, died on July 12, 2009 after a dignified battle with cancer. She was born in Indiana in 1926 to Alvin and Blanche Ritchie Stonecipher. After graduation from Lebanon Valley College, Evelyn earned her law degree from Temple University. In 1992, at the age of 65, Evelyn decided to take flying lessons. On the day she walked into the aviation museum, her life changed again. She met her future husband, John Ward. They resided in Hershey's Mill in West Chester, PA, and had the time of their lives, flying planes and taking small vacations. She lost her beloved partner in 2003. Evelyn is predeceased by her parents, sisters, Verna and Virginia and first husband, Charles Gourlay. She leaves behind many friends and her beloved niece, nephews and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Evelyn was intensely curious about the world, wonderfully full of fun, fiercely independent and had a love of helping others. She was Chairperson of the Goshen Towne chapter of Meals on Wheels until her illness forced her to retire in 2009. She will always be remembered for her delightful laugh, independent way of thinking and her generous heart. She will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 21 at 11:30 AM, at the D'Anjolell Memorial Home, 392 Lancaster Ave., Frazer, PA.
