"Bud" Lester E. "Bud" Whitman Jr., 79, of Lebanon died Monday, February 23, 2009, in ManorCare Health Services, Lebanon. He was the husband of Joyce E. Fritz Whitman, to whom he was married to for 60 years this past July. Born in Lebanon on October 9, 1929, he was the son of the late Lester E. Sr. and Mabel C. Demler Whitman. He worked as a miner in the Cornwall Ore Mines, and retired as a welder for Bethlehem Steel, Steelton. He was a 1947 graduate of Cornwall High School, and served with the U.S. Marine Corps. Bud was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Lebanon, Mt. Lebanon Lodge 226 F. &A.M., Harrisburg Consistory, Rajah Temple Shrine, and was a past grand tall cedar, Quittapahilla Forest No. 25. He was a life member of First Aid and Safety Patrol, and drove ambulance for over 25 years. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Lester E. "Fritz" Whitman III of Lebanon and Thomas E. Whitman of Middletown, Md.; a daughter, Lisa E., wife of Stuart Halsell of Quentin; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; four sisters, Ruth Yiengst of Dallas, Texas, Christine, wife of Richard Werni of Lebanon, Judith, wife of Dale Yantz of Lebanon, and Barbara, wife of Floyd O'Neal of Lebanon. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:30 a.m. from the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 E. Main St., Annville. Interment with military honors in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Monday from 9:3011:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
