Dennis C. Wood, 70, died April 18, 2009, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lebanon, Pa., of complications from a chronic illness. He was the son of the late Henry and Marion (Funck) Wood, formerly of Annville, Pa. Dennis was born on March 16, 1939, in Lebanon, Pa. He attended Annville High School, graduating with the Class of 1956. Following a brief employment with the Hershey Foods Corporation, he joined the U.S. Army in 1958, serving three years as a photographer and illustrator for the Army Signal Corps at Fort Monmouth, N.J., and Fort Drum, N.Y. Following an honorary discharge, he resided primarily in the Salt Lake City, Utah, area doing volunteer work, with a special love for caring for those less fortunate than he. Most recently, he had resided in Palmyra, Pa. He was a talented artist and loved entertaining children with his artistic skills. He particularly enjoyed serving as a surrogate "uncle" to the Crow Creek Sioux children from Fort Thompson, S.D., who were brought east each summer by his sister-inlaw. He provided many items to the Prairie Horizons organization, which serves the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe. He is survived by a brother, Dr. Curtis Wood, and sister-in-law Wilma ("Willie") Wood of Tsaile, Ariz. He also has three nephews, Andrew (and Deborah) Wood of Evanston, Ill., Aaron (and Jennifer) Wood of Phoenix, Ariz., Zachary (and Leann) Wood of Philadelphia, Pa.; and a grand-niece, Emma of Phoenix, whom he dearly loved. He was predeceased by his parents, and his grandparents, John and Ruth Funck, and John and Ida Wood. Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family.
