Albert MARIETTA James ''Jim'' David Albert passed away on Monday, February 22, 2010, at the Essa Flory Hospice Center in Lancaster, following a long, courageous battle with renal cell carcinoma. Born May 1, 1964, in Williamsport, he was the son of Paul S. and Alice (Horne) Albert of Myerstown. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Grim) Albert of Marietta; and his daughter, Alyssa and her husband, Charlie Licatese of York. He was a 1982 graduate of Eastern Lebanon County High School in Myerstown, where he was involved with a District Championship Basketball team and played on a PA second place soccer championship team. Following high school, he attended Shippensburg University and later, Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he graduated in 1987 and received his BA in Journalism and English. In college he also received several awards for his writing skills. Upon graduation from college, he went to work for the Northeast Times and the Philadelphia Inquirer in Philadelphia, and later the Lebanon Daily News, the Harrisburg Patriot, and York Daily Record. Later he chose to take a different career path and became interested in graphic design and the printing industry, working for ACS in Harrisburg, Strine Printing in York, and Zero Restriction Golf Outerwear in Hallam. His desire was to have his own graphic design business. In July 2005 he decided to open Albert Design Studio from his home in Marietta. Due to his illness his was unable to continue with his business. He is also survived by his sister, Karen, her husband, Jamie McFadden, and their daughter, Heather; his godchild of Mechanicsburg; his brother, Douglas Albert and his companion, Cristy Brenneman of Dillsburg; his in-laws, Bill and Susan Grim of Red Lion; his brother-inlaw, James Grim, his wife, Becky, and daughters, Jade, Shae, and Breana of Wrightsville; and his sisterin-law, Debra Hoke, her husband, Jay, and their son, Ellis of York. Other survivors include several uncles, aunts, and cousins. Jim had many passions - his love for his family and friends, his creativity, his writings, his music, photography, cooking, the beach, and drawing cartoons and caricatures. He won awards for his drawing ability, including a PA Gold Key award. His thought provoking blog, Enjoy Every Sandwich, has inspired many people. It spoke of his journey with cancer and the positive outlook that he had. The way he led his life changed many and he will never be forgotten. The memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Friedens Lutheran Church, 301 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown, with visitation to follow at the church.
