M. shabodeho@aol.com November 16, 2010, 8:20 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on November 16, 2010 James M. Alwine GRANTVILLE James M. Alwine, 78, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2010, in the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. Born in Hershey on December 30, 1931, he was the son of Ralph C. and Mary Hoffer Alwine. James was a 1949 graduate of Hershey High School. James was an U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War. He was a member of Bindnagle Lutheran Church, Palmyra. James was Quarter Master for almost 20 years and former Treasurer of VFW Post 3502, Hershey, former Financial Officer for the American Legion Post 265, Hummelstown, a member of the AMVETS Post 286, Rutherford, and the Middletown Moose. James owned race horses over the years, and was an avid sportsman. James is survived by his companion of 25 years, Cora Gene and family; two daughters, Barbara Jane Kauffman and Donna Ricupero of Enola; two sons, James M. Alwine, Jr. of Elizabethtown, and David Alwine of Omaha, Neb.; three step-sons, Herbert, Norman and Alan Beaver; a sister, Georgia Doersom of Gettysburg; a brother, Jack A. Alwine of Palmyra; 10 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Alwine; a grandson, Benjamin Shue; two sisters, Catherine Lineweaver and Marguerite Alwine; and a brother, Aaron Alwine. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, 114 W. Main St., Hummelstown. Inurnment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Hershey VFW Post 3502, 883 West Chocolate Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033.
