Reed Ames, 91, passed away Monday, July 19, 2010, at her home in Columbia Cottage. Born in Hummelstown, on December 4, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Samuel H. and Annie M. Reigle Reed. Mary was supervisor of the cup department for H.B. Reese Candy Company, where she was employed for over 30 years. She was a former member of the Eastern Star, and a founder of the former Good Cheer Social Club, Mudtown. Mary was a breast cancer survivor, but did not let her cancer interfere with her passion for oil painting and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Ames, on November 6, 1986; her cherished companion, Harry Chandler; six brothers, Samuel A. Reed, Lester D. Reed, Jay W. Reed, William C. Reed, John R. Reed, and Alvin C. Reed; and four sisters, Blanche N. Porr, Anna B. King, Sarah E. Rhan, and Emma C. Felty. Mary is survived by two sons, William E. Ames, Jr., husband of Josephine of Annville, and Wesley E. Ames, husband of Donette of Hummelstown; two daughters, Winnona E. Brightbill and her companion, Albert Glasby of Berwick, and Wanda E. Hebert, wife of Raymond R. of Palmyra; nine grandchildren, Paul A. Lucas, Peter A. Lucas, Audra L. Doherty, Douglas R. Cheyney, Mark M. Cheyney, Shelley M. McCloskey, Suzanne M. Williams, Samantha R. Eitzmann, and Tara L. Hebert; and 17 greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 W. Main St., Hummelstown, with the Rev. Jeffrey C. Compton, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church of Union Deposit, officiating. Interment will be in the Stoverdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society , 112 Sipe Ave., Hummelstown, PA 17036; or to the Salvation Army, Gift Processing Center, P.O.
