Coats, 89, died Friday, December 10, 2010, at Cedar Haven Nursing Home. Sara was born in Lebanon on July 21, 1921, and was the youngest daughter of the late Vincent and Audrey Payne. Sara graduated from Lebanon Catholic High School in 1939 and entered Misericordia Nursing School in Philadelphia, graduating in 1942. Upon graduation Sara entered the U.S. Navy as a Navy nurse serving at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital. While serving, she met and married the late William J. Coats. His navy career took the family to many places around the United States and to Europe. Sara had a long nursing career which included the Good Samaritan Hospital and the Lebanon VA Medical Center. She traveled the world with many friends and was an avid reader and bridge player. Sara was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and attended daily mass from the time she was in grade school. Sara is survived by her younger brother, Vincent Payne of Palmyra; her three daughters, Mary Ann, wife of Leonard C. Rogers of Encinitas, Calif., Jeanne, wife of Craig M. Olson of Twisp, Wash., and Carol, wife of David W. Arnold of Lebanon; seven grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Her daughters would like to thank the staff at Cedar Haven for all the care, attention, and love shown to their mother. Funeral mass 10 a.m. Monday, December 13, at St. Mary's Church, 2 N. 8th St., Lebanon 17046. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery.
