  LAFAYETTE HILL Albert Coons, Jr., 89, former resident of Camp Hill, passed away 
  peacefully on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at The Hill at Whitemarsh Life Care 
  Community. Coons, who was born and raised in Lebanon, was graduated from the 
  Phillips Exeter Academy (1939) and from Dartmouth College (1943). He served in 
  the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant during WWII. As a regional executive with 
  Pomeroy's for 36 years, he was well known in Harrisburg retail and civic 
  circles. Coons enjoyed skiing, golf, tennis, sailing, travel, and gardening. 
  Coons was a former director of many area organizations including Family & 
  Children's Services, Boy's Club of Harrisburg, Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce, 
  and the Harrisburg Symphony Association. He was a past President of the 
  Dartmouth Club of Harrisburg, and former member of the Unitarian Church of 
  Harrisburg, Kiwanis Club, and the West Shore Country Club. He is survived by 
  his wife, Louise L. Coons of Lafayette Hill; sons, Al Coons, III of Boston, 
  Mass., and John Coons of Denver, Colo.; and daughter, Helen L. Coons of 
  Philadelphia. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2010, 
  at The Hill at Whitemarsh, 4000 Fox Hound Drive, Lafayette Hill, 19444 (215-402-
  8500), and at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2010, at the Unitarian Church of 
  Harrisburg, 1280 Clover Lane, Swatara Township, Harrisburg 17113 (717-564-
  4761). Memorial donations may be made to the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg at 
  the above address. Auer Memorial Services of PA, Inc. is in charge of 
  arrangements.
